An exceptional Steinway boudoir grand piano with a beautiful rich and warm. Tone, notably the bass for the size of piano. The piano dates to 1892, Hamburg built with the serial number 72738, keyframe also signed and dated as photographed. Ebonised casework with the original parts (non modernised) of late Victorian decorative character with Steinways classic fretwork music stand, double bead mouldings around the lower case rim and the whole raised on substantial circular pillar legs. Overall length 6′ by 4′ 8 width, Steinway introduced this model in 1878 listed as a Style 1 with seven octaves (85 notes) and the Hamburg factory produced them until 1905. By this date 88 note models became standard with the added increase of case width to accommodate. The original ivory keyboard is present in very good condition and the piano is fitted with a third (middle) sostenuto pedal. Within the last year the piano has received an extensive restoration by our Norfolk based workshop, the action and keyboard receiving new felts and parts which include hammers rollers and dampers from Renner – Germany. The action is thoroughly regulated and weighted providing the best in a responsive touch for the player. The piano is fully re-strung including acoustic soundboard and bridge renovation, the original casework taken apart for general repair, part re-polishing and cleaning the brass fittings. The finished appearance is very smart in gloss black as photographed. In general a quality instrument and restored in a traditional manner to preserve and enjoy the inherent qualities of a period Steinway piano.
