Bechstein Antique Grand Piano With Ornate Polished Black Case C. Bechstein antique boudoir grand piano with ornate black case. This piano was made in Berlin circa 1876, serial number 8393. Features include: polished black cabinet with fretwork music desk, beautiful turned legs and lyre, overstrung iron frame, 7 octaves, 85 note original keyboard with nice touch and tone. The instrument was refurbished and re-polished some years ago and remains in working order. The case is in excellent condition with minor age related wear and tare. A fine antique piano centrepiece to grace any property. A matching piano stool is also included. L 212cm x W 148cm. Carl Bechstein opened his piano manufactory in Berlin, Germany in 1853 (the same year Steinway established the Steinway factory in New York). The firm’s reputation for building superior instruments spread quickly and during the 19th Century Bechstein became one of the most celebrated piano builders in the world. Early Bechstein pianos were known for having a very melodic tonal quality and longevity enjoyed by many of the most illustrious composers of the time, including, Liszt, Wagner, Ravel and Debussy. Died in 1900, leaving the firm to his sons Carl Jr. The firm continued to celebrate massive success well into the 20th Century. Bechstein is one of the few piano manufacturers in the world to survive 160+ years, and they are still building exceptional pianos today.
